Long, elegant pistons propelled the mare over the plains, the wind whipping at her russet mane. Muscles moved under her sweat-drenched roan hide, her eyes alive.
Rhapsody only felt alive when she ran. When she could feel the rush of the air past her, and the earth giving under her blade sharp talons. She stretched her neck out, ears back as she pushed herself to move fastest.

Tribute's chestnut ears perked at the sound of thundering hooves. His head swiveled towards the sound, and he drew in his breath sharply. A beautiful roan mare was pounding her way across the land with great speed. Never in his life had Tribute seen such a marvelous sight. He ran swiftly towards her, his long, slender legs powering him across the earth in long, easy strides. Soon he drew close enough to ask her to stop running. His breathing was hardly laboured as he spoke:
"Hello miss, I am Tribute, leader of the neutral Oaks Herd. Would you honor me by joining my herd, perhaps, as my lead mare?"
He caught his breath and waited, hoping her answer would be yes.

Rhapsody caught the movement out of the edge of her vision; a dash of chestnut against the jade of the grass. She turned her head, sizing the stallion up, wondering if he could keep up with her.
She wished she could just run on; the wind called to her mustang blood. She raced over the ground, aware of the stallion nearby, closing the gap between them. He voice rang clear in the air of the grasslands, his words peaking her interest. The wind would come again, she knew that; but for now... the brute wanted her attention.
Reluctantly, Rhapsody pulled up out of her run, sliding to a stop. She reared as her halted, daggers lancing at the air, then settled to ground. Tossing her head, she shook her mane back out of her eyes and turned to face the stallion. Her sides heavy, winded, as she spoke.
"Well now, you do know how to catch a girl's attention, Lord Tribute.."
Rhapsody danced backward as the stallion a few, her laughter like the ringing of tiny crystal bells. She dipped her head in greeting, watching the stallion for any signs of aggression.
"I am called Rhapsody; it's a pleasure to meet you. As for you offer, I must know first... herds have rules, and I have found that some stallions do not trust their mares to run free as I enjoy doing.."
She looked at Tribute softly, her deep brown eyes dancing. He was handsome, but was he a nice? Or was he mean? Would he try to smother her wild spirit, or would he take her as she was..
"Are you such a stallion? Would you keep me from the winds, if I was of your herd? You would you still let me race the sky?"

Tribute looked taken aback. of course she could run freely. He was used to being held capitive and running only when the humans wanted him to, usually in those silly races. His eyes flashed with anger at the memories. Then they soften again.
"Of course you would be free to run, so long as you do not go off without telling me if it is after sunset. That is one of my few rules. Now, do you want longer to think, or can you come to a decision?"
He asked the last question, hoping he didn't sound impatient or pushy. The mare, Rhapsody, was beautiful and he didn't want to ruin the chance to perhaps become her friend, if she didn't join his herd.

Rhapsody laughed again at the tone in the stallion's voice. He didn't seem to like to wait... but she couldn't blame him. If the roles where reversed, she wouldn't want to wait either.
Dark eyes scanned over the form of the other horse, taking in anything that might make him different from the others. She pawed softly that grass as she glanced over his hip, shoulder, and back to his head. His eyes set him appart; dark, but still kinda.. full of mermories she could sense just below their watery surface.
The roan angel was tired of being alone. The wind was a lovely compainon, but it didn't talk back, or take interest in you wellbring... it was just the wind.
Taking a few steps forward, she dipped her crown to the stallion. She advanced to brush her muzzle against his shoulder, lipping lightly at him.
" Alright then; I am yours, Tribute. And am your mare, Lord... and you Lead, if you still wish it. "

A soft whinny escaped from Tribute's muzzle. Gone were his old memories and the pain they brought to him. His eyes shone now with a certain happiness. He bowed his head.
"Thank you,Rhapsody. Of course I still wish you to be my lead mare. A spirit as free and beautiful as yourself does not come along each day. "
He stepped towards her, his steps light and care-free. He nuzzled Rhapsody's shoulder with his whiskery lips, then snorted affectionately.
"Come, run with me to our homeland."
He said, though it was more of a question. He found asking gave better results than ordering, and it showed respect. He respected this mare, his new lead mare. For she was now his equal.

The roan mare nickered, tossing her head lightly as she stepped off to pace the stallion.... her new lord. Reaching over, she playfully tugged at his mane as they began their trek back to her new home..

Tribute nickered, tossing his head like a young foal at play. He kicked up his finely shapped legs and leaped up in a playful rear. He struck down gracefully back upon the firm ground. He whinnied at Rhapsody then moved into a fast, ground swallowing gallop. He kept his pace slower than usually at first, making sure Rhpasody could keep up. It was soon clear she could, so he pushed on, his legs stretching out and propelling him with a greater speed.

The roan mare gave a little buck, kicking her heels up behind her as she stretched out over the plains. Her body might have been shorter, as where her legs, but her mustang blood made if easy to keep pace with Tributes longer strides.
She flattened out next to him, her daggers biting into the grass as the new pair raced over the ground to vanish into the horizon. (wee, lol)
